The greentech company specializing in ecological restoration has raised €5 million from Raise seed for good and LocalGlobe.
Founded in 2020 by Thibault Sorret and Priscille Raynaud, Ecosystem Restoration Standard (formerly Wildsense) offers standards and certifications to evaluate and ensure the quality of ecological restoration projects. These standards are developed in collaboration with domain experts and are based on the latest scientific research and cutting-edge technology. The ERS is based on four criteria: ecosystem restoration, climate, biodiversity, and livelihoods. Its goal is to meet the growing need for restoration of degraded ecosystems worldwide. With over two billion hectares of degraded land in the world, this phenomenon is a major concern for governments, companies, and citizens. Ecological restoration is increasingly seen as a solution to combat biodiversity loss, soil degradation, and air and water pollution. The Parisian startup recently launched a public consultation to gather contributions and comments from key stakeholders, including companies, NGOs, governments, local communities, and other stakeholders.
By developing effective and measurable restoration standards, Ecosystem Restoration Standard contributes to the preservation of the environment and biodiversity while providing social and economic benefits to local communities. Their approach is also beneficial for companies seeking to reduce their environmental impact and promote sustainability. This fundraising enables Ecosystem Restoration Standard to support the development of the new generation of dMRV (Digital Monitoring, Reporting & Verification) and to launch the certification program for the first three projects located in Panama, Costa Rica, and Madagascar.
Raise seed for good is a new vehicle for financing seed-stage startups and emerging leaders in responsible tech in Europe. It was launched by Raise Ventures, which specializes in supporting the development of innovative companies with high growth potential. LocalGlobe is a venture capital firm that invests in seed and early-stage companies with disruptive technology and a global reach. Its portfolio includes companies such as Improbable, Citymapper, TransferWise, and Zoopla.
The Ecosystem Restoration Standard project aligns with the missions of both Raise seed for good and LocalGlobe, which prioritize the funding of innovative, responsible, and impactful companies. The investment in ERS demonstrates their commitment to supporting solutions to global environmental challenges and promoting sustainability.
The €5 million raised by Ecosystem Restoration Standard will enable the company to expand its reach and impact, supporting the restoration of additional degraded ecosystems around the world. The certification program for the first three projects in Panama, Costa Rica, and Madagascar will provide a framework for evaluating and ensuring the quality of ecological restoration projects in these regions. The development of the new generation of dMRV technology will enable ERS to monitor and report on the progress of these projects in real-time, providing transparency and accountability. The success of Ecosystem Restoration Standard demonstrates the potential for greentech companies to address global environmental challenges and promote sustainability while providing social and economic benefits to local communities.
